I would like to remind everyone of a new change affecting all students and staff of New England Public Schools. On Friday, November 13, 2020, Governor Burgum issued Executive Order 2020-43, requiring: • face coverings be worn in all indoor public spaces regardless of social distancing; • face coverings be worn in all outdoor spaces where physical distancing of six feet or more is not possible; • postponement of all extracurricular events until December 14, 2020 • practice for extra-curricular events were postponed and will resume on November 30, 2020. Starting Monday, November 30, 2020, students and staff will be required to wear face coverings at all times, excluding lunch when students are eating. We will provide mask breaks for students throughout the day. Faculty, staff, and administration will work to identify those times and areas. We understand that this may be frustrating news to some of you, but we continue to ask for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times. We will continue to update you as we get more information in the future.

A message from our NEPS Booster Club: Tiger Wear order forms are due tomorrow the 24th? We cannot accept late orders to ensure Christmas arrival. We also need payment before any individual order is placed. If you can't drop off order forms at school, you may make arrangements for a no-contact drop off with Corrie or Julie Rafferty. Contact phone numbers are on the order form. Thank you!

Thank you to parents and students. Overall, we had much better contact with students compared to last spring. We have two more days of distance learning next week before Thanksgiving vacation begins. Make sure to check your email. There were a great number of notification letters sent out regarding quarantining. We will see most of our population back November 30; however, there are a number of students who will have to continue to quarantine into December. Please keep in mind we are mandated to wear masks when in the school building per the executive order by the governor. Preschool and kindergarten are exempt. Administration is working on a schedule to allow mask breaks during the school day. You will receive further guidance regarding this next week. While wearing masks is not a pleasant experience, it will cut down on the need to mass quarantine our students by only sending home those who have Covid or Covid-like symptoms.

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum has ordered a statewide mask mandate. The executive order was issued late Friday, November 13, 2020. The directive requires everyone to wear face coverings in indoor businesses and indoor public settings, as well as outdoor public settings where physical distancing is not possible. The order went into effect Saturday, November 14, 2020. On Monday, November 30, 2020 all students getting on a bus for school and all students entering school must wear a mask. Pre-school and kindergarten students are exempt from wearing a mask once they enter the building and go thru the proper health screening protocol. Mask breaks will be allowed during school when a student needs a break. At this time, all school activities have been postponed. The start of winter sports will be delayed until December 14, 2020. More information on postponements and winter activities will be forthcoming.

Over the course of the weekend, New England Public School has seen an increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases and quarantined students and staff. Out of an abundance of caution, an effort to stop this current spread, New England Public School has made the decision to switch all New England Public School students (grades PK-12) to full distance learning effective Monday, November 16, 2020. Students will return to campus Monday, November 30, 2020 after the Thanksgiving holidays. This includes suspending all extracurricular activities during this time. The transition to distance learning will be seamless. We already have an amazing distance learning component in place at New England Public School. Below are the procedures for students in grades 4-12 to follow over the next two weeks. Continue learning with their same teacher/s and classmates as they did in the traditional scenario. Student class times will be the same for online learning as the regular school day bell schedule. Students in grades PK-3 will have a hybrid schedule as determined by their teacher. Students will be expected to log in to their classes and attendance will be taken. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause; however, we want to ensure our entire school community stays healthy during the holiday season and beyond.

On behalf of the administrative team, it is once again with a heavy heart and out of deep concern for the health and welfare of our entire school community that I am making the following announcement. New England Public School students in fourth grade thru twelfth grade who were attending face to face instruction, will begin transitioning to distance learning effective Monday, November 16, 2020. Our return to face to face instruction, for grades 4-12, will be November 30, 2020. Our work together to slow the spread of COVID-19 has helped keep most of our students in school for 13 precious weeks. However, we have seen county numbers continue to rise at a steady rate. In our school community we have also seen an increase in the number of staff and students testing positive along with an increased number of persons being asked to quarantine due to close contact. We are better prepared and equipped to provide high quality distance learning instruction until we can safely and enthusiastically bring all students back into our buildings once COVID-19 cases notably reduce in our schools, county, and state. Thank you for your unending support for high quality education for all learners at New England Public School and please stay strong, courageous, patient, and most of all — healthy.
